Memorial Scholarship
As a coalition, we strive to promote and celebrate diversity in the field of human lactation. In 2021 we launched the Karen Evon Scholarship as way to both honor a longtime Sacramento lactation professional and as a way to support diversity in the lactation community in Sacramento. Karen Evon passed in late 2023 but her legacy will live on forever. In 2024 we changed the name of the scholarship to the Karen Evon Memorial Scholarship.

Renee Alton
My name is Renee Alton and I am a birthworker and mother of seven. I have worked in lactation for 13 years and am grateful for the opportunity to expand my education in the field. I have facilitated support groups as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor since 2014. I will use this scholarship to attend the Certified Lactation Counselor program at UC San Diego. This is my first step toward my ultimate goal of becoming an IBCLC.
