As a coalition, we strive to promote and celebrate diversity in the field of human lactation. In 2021 we launched the Karen Evon Scholarship as way to both honor a longtime Sacramento lactation professional and as a way to  support diversity in the lactation community in Sacramento. 

Karen Evon passed in late 2023 but her legacy will live on forever.  In 2024 we changed the name of the scholarship to the Karen Evon Memorial Scholarship.  This year we will sponsor up to $1160 in scholarship funds.  The SBC will award two people with either the full cost of the IBCLC exam or up to $500 towards a Certified Lactation Educators (CLE) certification.  The scholarship money will be coordinated with each winner and will be paid directly to the program.
