Vocheri Marlo Thomas started her certified full-spectrum doula private practice, The Divine Mama Doula Project, in 2022 and has also served as a Senior Community Doula at Haven for Birth since 2023. Alongside her business partner, Nikki “Keyz” Patterson of The Indi Women’s Club, Vocheri has curated comprehensive perinatal doula care that is bespoke, evidence-based, and scaffolded with the cultural reverence and trauma-informed practices for countless families of all sizes and walks of life throughout Sacramento, Yolo, and Placer counties. A former educator, a great amount of her service is centered around empowering clients through applied knowledge so that they feel truly prepared for their journey ahead. In addition to service in birth work, the other two key components to Vocheri’s doula practice are outreach and policy, ensuring that such services are evolving to meet community needs.

Political Co-Liaison
Keyz Patterson, Doula
Hi Budz, my name is Keyz. I am a Chicago native currently living in Sacramento, Ca. I first found my passion for maternal and infant health while studying Public Health at The Ohio State University. After moving to California, I wanted to expand my knowledge from prevention and education to intervention. With a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a minor in women’s health, I bring an interesting perspective of clinical practice to doula support. Since then, I have also expanded my perinatal care to focus on maternal mental health and supporting clients psychologically and emotionally as they navigate parenthood. I offer clients access to information, tools, and resources that will help them sustain wellness over their lifetime. Moreover, as a certified doula and cannabis consultant I aim to educate, normalize, and advocate for the use of therapeutic cannabis in women’s health, particularly in aspects of birth and postpartum care. My goal is to heal communities of color that have been ravaged by the war on drugs by (1) reducing barriers to accessing cannabis, and (2) improving birth outcomes for Black birthing-people by restoring the cultural and medicinal connection between cannabis and womb health for all members of the African diaspora.
